Add Extension for Low Back Pain

When a patient is dealing with low back pain with or without radiating symptoms, it’s important to figure out which movements/activities are aggravating and which ones provide relief. Most commonly, bending forward and sitting tends to make the pain worse and walking or standing will make things better.

This is because our day predominantly consists of going in and out of a flexed position. Bending forward, sitting or slouching (desk work), and transitioning from sitting to standing are all examples of this flexed position. Along with this, there aren’t many things that require us to bend and extend backward in our daily life. Constantly flexing forward without counteracting those movements with extension puts a lot of stress and load on the discs and spine and increases the risk of injury. Try out this exercise to add in some extension and keep the low back healthy!
